The city of Ephrata has opted to not open the Splash Zone water park this summer due to COVID-19. The combination of park maintenance deemed non-essential and the inability to conduct lifeguard trainings due to being a group setting, the proper preparation isn't feasible. Along with the 'Stay Home' complications, the city reported the estimated cost of operation for the summer was roughly $336,000 and revenue was estimated at about $123,000. The uncertainty of when the water park would be open due to the 'Phase In' approach also weighed into the decision, according to a city announcement. However, the city is offering alternative programs with plans to start the Skyhawk camps, summer concerts, Movies in the Park and more during Phase 3.
