The Washington State fire season has been record setting this year according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Commissioner for Public Lands Hilary Franz says there have been more than 1,000 fires already, a record and double the 10-year average and that's something she'll talk to the Federal Government about.

"Especially after this year, we need more work on federal forest lands for forest health. We're going to need more resources. [The state] is stepping up with [House Bill] 1168."

More than 240,000 acres of Washington has burned this year, more than all of 2019.

Franz noted that this will have to be a multi-state, nationwide effort.

"From air quality to the long-term health of our forests, wildfire is a public health and public safety issue in Washington and across the entire Western United States that we all must work together to confront."

There are 10 major wildfires currently burning in Washington.
