Governor Jay Inslee is set to sign legislation today that would ban single-use plastic bags throughout the state.

The bill would prohibit retail stores, whether in their own building or at an event, from providing plastic carryout bags or other bags that do not meet recycled content requirements.

Ferndale Republican Doug Ericksen is asking Inslee to veto the bill saying customers bringing their own reusable bags could introduce coronavirus into a public location calling them a critical tool to strengthen public health.

The bill passed the state House 67-29 and the Senate 33-15.
