Grant County Fire District No. 3 was awarded the Management Excellence award by the Washington Fire Commissioners Association which is a nod toward the district's administration vigilance with management of funds and overall financial responsibility.

"This is a synopsis of the entire fire department working together soundly and fiscally sound toward providing better customer service," said Michele Talley, public information officer.

The financial achievements for the district such as, being awarded the SAFER grant multiple years and using reserved monies to replace a structure engine, illustrate the district's dedication to saving taxpayer money and having a strong administration guiding the department.

"Everyone sees the fire district has going on calls, putting out fires, dealing with medical aids - but really the fire district is a business. So this is just showing we are running this business, this fire department, at optimal levels and do all those things...in one year's time and not increase our tax base at all," said Talley. "That's a huge achievement for us."

Some other accomplishments include hiring additional career firefighters, grant money supplying an electronic reader board installed at the main station in Quincy and the Multi-Purpose Live Fire Training Facility completed and funded through grant money.

"People don't see that end of the fire district kind of stuff, they just see what happens when they call 911 and this is all the stuff that happens behind the scenes that able us to do better when we're called to emergencies," said Talley.
