Grant Program Sets Goal to Encourage Adoption of a Variety of Electric Transportation

The Washington State Department of Commerce has opened the grant application process for the Electrification of Transportation Systems (ETS) program for local governments, Washington state retail electric utilities (both privately owned and consumer owned utilities) and organizations partnering with qualified entities.

"This is part of our family of Clean Energy Fund grants which provides money through the state to deploy innovative, clean tech solutions around buildings, around renewable energy, nonprofit lenders," said Michael Breish, senior energy specialist.

This particular grant opportunity hones in on electric vehicle charging equipment with the purpose to continue accelerating the deployment of charging infrastructure throughout the state.

"Which in turn should encourage additional adoption of all sorts of electric vehicles," said Breish. "Not just passenger duty cars, but we're looking at medium and heavy duty vehicles. We're also looking at ports."

The total funding available is $10.6 million with the smallest grant offered at $25,000 and the largest, $2.5 million.

"The goal of the program by having grants as small as $25,000 and having grants all the way up to $2.5 million, is to really meet these organizations where they're at," said Breish.
