After the Veterans Day Parade, Highgate Senior Living hosted a Veterans Day celebration honoring those who served.

Amelia Adkins, Senior Director of Marketing says it included complimentary poppies, photo booth and tours of their new guided independence area.

"We really wanted to put on this event to honor them. They served so that we could have our freedom. I think that's something that we all hold in very high regard. We just wanted to appreciate them and give them a day to be honored."

The new guided independence area is described as an area for people who are early on in their fight with dementia.

One of the residents, Bobby Bose, says he loves his time at Highgate and was appreciative of their event that honored vets like him.

"[Veterans Day means] Serving my country. Having been able to serve, that's the greatest thing you can have. The worse thing is missing your guys that were with you. Some of them are gone."

The event ran from 1-5 p.m. at the Miller St. facility in Wenatchee.
