A 43-year-old man is recovering after slipping while hiking approximately 3.5 miles from Snow Lakes Trailhead, injuring his knee and was unable to walk the rest of the way.

Chelan County Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Lewis says they got the call around noon.

"We called Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and they accepted the mission. They airlifted him out of the area and he was transferred to medics after that."

The isolated location and steep terrain forced rescue personnel to call for a helicopter to come to the area.

The extent of the injuries was not released.
