An intoxicated driver was behind a hit and run outside of George Saturday night around 6:30.
The incident began just after the suspect, 41-year-old Bryan Bickel, was traveling eastbound on I-90 in his 2014 Nissan Altima and took exit 151 in George, thinking he was in Moses Lake.
“The causing driver thought he was exiting to State Route 17. He was a good almost 30 miles west of that so he was a little confused on his location.” said Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Anderson, “So he incorrectly took the exit onto SR 281. It sounds like he actually did come to a full stop, but then did not notice the other vehicle traveling southbound on SR 281 into George, and proceeded into the intersection and t-boned the right front of the victim vehicle.”
Anderson said neither Bickel nor the other driver were injured. However all three passengers in the victim’s vehicle, a 2007 Honda Odyssey, were transported to Quincy Valley Hospital with injuries. According to the incident report the passengers were a 35 year old woman, a 19 year old man and a 11 year old girl.
Bickel then compounded his problems by attempting to flee the scene of the accident.
“After striking the vehicle, the causing driver actually fled back onto eastbound I-90.” continued Anderson, “For some reason he decided he wanted to go back west again, so he attempted to cross the median. He did not notice the cable barrier, and he got hung up on the cable barrier and got stuck. At that point he exited his vehicle and then started walking eastbound on Frontage Road where one of the troopers located him.”
Bickel was then arrested and charged with DUI and hit-and-run.
