Governor Jay Inslee was part of a meeting in Anacortes last week regarding two Democrat-let environmental bills, the Clean Fuel Standard bill (HB 1091) and the Climate Commitment Act (SB 5126).

Inslee said COVID-19 and climate change have some similarities, as both are existential crises that can be defeated by science.

"These bills both will effectively restrain carbon pollution that is causing climate change and ocean acidification and both of them have the ability to grow our economies," stated Inslee.

Inslee added that he's been encouraged by President Biden's commitment to building clean energy infrastructure.

The Clean Fuel Standard bill would require fuel producers to reduce the carbon intensity of their fuels. It has passed out of the House and is now in the Senate Rules Committee. The full bill and other information can be found here.

The Climate Commitment Act, which would cap greenhouse emissions and make investments in the environment, is also in the Senate Rules Committee although it has yet to be passed out of either chamber. The full bill and other information can be found here.
