Governor Jay Inslee discussed the state legislature's continued work to pass a massive transportation package Tuesday.

Inslee said his priorities for the package include preserving infrastructure, combating climate change, and providing people with more transportation opportunities. Many portions of the package fund the state's legal obligations, such as $3 billion to remove fish passage barriers.

"I have taken the strategic role of helping these parties develop this package rather than directing a particular either number or project list." Inslee stated, "I have found that can be the most productive way to advance the ball here."

Apart from simply the general need to improve the state's declining infrastructure, Inslee identified building a new I-5 bridge over the Columbia River as well as replacing 13 of the state's ferries over the next 20 years as specific needs.

The Democrats' proposal includes roughly $10 billion for this current biennium and a $26 billion package for 15 years.
