Chelan County Fire District 1, Douglas County Fire District 2 and law enforcement responded to a report of a female and a dog in a kayak that tipped over into the Wenatchee River at 9:29 a.m. Thursday.

According to public information officer, Kay McKellar, initially a rescue swimmer was called out but not need and units were able to assist the woman out of the water, which was in an area with heavy brush.

"She was wearing a personal floatation device which is a really important reminder to folks that the weather is quite warm, but the water is very cold," said McKellar. "Personal floatation devices are a life saver."

All units were cleared by 10:52 a.m.
