The National Weather Service (NWS) provided a winter weather forecast Tuesday for the Wenatchee Valley, and to a lesser degree North Central Washington.

NWS' Climate Prediction Center recently issued a La Niña advisory for this winter. La Niña is the cooler winter counterpart of El Niño, and together they make up the Southern Oscillation climate pattern.

Meteorologist Jeremy Wolf said that for the Wenatchee area, La Niña usually brings with it cooler temperatures and above average snowfall.

Wolf added that there are many other factors in the atmosphere that determine weather, so a prediction of above-average snowfall does not come with a high degree of confidence.

Typically, when we go into La Niña winters, those conditions tend to linger on into the spring. As we head into the summer, we start to lose the impacts of La Niña.
