The Bavarian Village is known for its German character and Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce is putting its colorful personality in black and white with the new "Der Wördbook",  Leavenworth dictionary. The only two stipulations to contribute is that the word must start with "Der" and every definition must end with "Leavenworth, Wa".

"It's no secret we like to have a little fun with our marketing," said Jessica Stoller, media director for Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce. "The Der Wordbook is a dictionary and our way of having a little fun with these made up words that capture the spirit of the many things that make Leavenworth unique."

Throughout September, a new video will be released each week that demonstrates one of the DerWords. A free vacation package to Leavenworth is up for grabs for some wordsmiths.

"People have a love of Leavenworth and it gives them an ability to submit a word that means something special to them about their connection to Leavenworth," said Stoller.
