The city of Leavenworth set a public hearing for Tuesday evening over the preliminary budget for 2021-2022. Leavenworth city council has discussed the budget three times prior to the hearing.

For 2021, the city is proposing $3.1 million in revenue with $3.4 million in expenditures.

"It's a balanced budget, but we acknowledge that we are balancing that budget by going into cash fund reserves," said Ana Cortez-Steiner, city administrator. "What we're doing to balance is going into our cash fund, which right now sits at $3.4 million."

The council identified priorities in the budget such as the Osborn Property acquisition, parking system improvements and increasing city personnel. According to Cortez, $800,000 will also go into the Front Street restrooms.

"A major project for the next few years is the continued implementation of the transportation and parking program," said Cortez. "As we move forward we need to put in place more infrastructure for our parking, we need to improve our parking lots, we need to put in place residential parking."

The public hearing is accessible via Zoom. The final public hearing for the budget is November 24.
