The Leavenworth city council passed a resolution to suspend the Old Bavarian Theme for temporary structures in an effort to alleviate stress on businesses during the pandemic.

"Leavenworth has had very strict standards for how outdoor signage, outdoor aesthetic and how they're supposed to be consistent with the Bavarian theme," said Ana Cortez-Steiner, city administrator.

According to Cortez, the city is trying to be as flexible as possible with the pandemic underway.

"One of the barriers that our merchant community identified for us was the fact...it would be good if we would remove these restrictions in order to facilitate quicker installation of temporary outdoor seating," said Cortez.

This step was necessary in order for merchants and restaurants to use patio space without being under tight standards for it to be Bavarian themed.
