As a way to ensure it has the quantity and quality of pilots it needs in the future, Horizon Air and Central Washington University announce a new pilot development program. Captain LaMar Haugaard, Horizon Air’s director of Pilot Development and Recruiting says, the air carrier will provide up to 17 CWU students each with $7500 stipends to cover necessary fees and training expenses for the 2016 school year. In return, the students make two-year commitments to work for Horizon Air. A Horizon Air pilot himself for 32 years, Haugaard came to Ellensburg to conduct the first recruiting for the new program. In addition, Horizon Air's providing the CWU Department of Aviation with a $10,000 flight simulator, which further augments the school’s student-pilot training capabilities.
