The new Wenatchee skate park, Hale Park, was unveiled in September, however the remaining grant funding for the park's finishing touches can't cover the expenses for lighting.

The founder of Community for Wenatchee Valley Skateparks, Mike Leeds, has created a fundraiser to raise $55,000 for three light poles and $4,000 for bleachers with the funding being directly routed through the non-profit, Wenatchee Valley Sports Foundation.

"There is lighting in the parking lot, but there isn't at at the skatepark," said Mike Leeds, founder of Community for Wenatchee Valley Skateparks. "We're grateful for this skate park, that's unquestionable, but we're concerned about everyone's safety and vandalism."

There was an instance of graffiti at the skatepark along with trash in the Apple Bowl. The goal of the light is to not only keep the park well lit to keep trouble out, but also for skateboarders to be able to skate in the evening time as well.

"Parks director, Dave Erickson, shared with me it's right at $55,000 to put in three light poles for the skatepark and then it's about $4,000 in change for a small set of bleachers because we want to make it a family friendly park," said Leeds.

The fundraiser was created on January 4 and any questions can be directed to Leeds.
