We know all too well in North Central Washington how important the Red Cross is to a local community. National Red Cross Month begins March 1st and it is designed to highlight the importance and impact of the organization.

Executive Director of the Greater Inland Northwest chapter Megan Snow says their mission is critical.

"Whenever my friend or somebody I've never met before truly needs my help and they don't know where else to turn following a disaster, that's really the opportunity the Red Cross steps into to help."

There will be Red Cross banners flying in downtown Wenatchee. The City Council will issue a proclamation and blood drives are always happening.

Snow says it's easy to help them.

"The biggest and probably, some people say easiest some would disagree but giving blood. We're always in a blood shortage. There's always a need."

They are also always looking for volunteers to help those who are faced with a disaster from something big like a wildfire, or something smaller like a house fire.

There will also be the annual Honoring Hometown Heroes celebration on March 23rd which is free for the public to attend. They just ask that you RSVP.
