The city of Leavenworth will have it's downtown core closed to traffic and parking Friday morning per Mayor Carl Florea's decision. According to his letter to the community, he stated the decision was a response to the increased traffic volume and number of people in the downtown core. The closure will include Front Street from Gustav's to 10th, 8th Street from Front to Commercial and 9th Street from the highway to Commercial without sidewalk use by businesses. This will last until at least Phase 2 of the Governor Inslee's phase in recovery plan. According to the letter, the purpose of the closure is to make the entire street to be used a pedestrian walk for folks to practice social distancing.
