The Better Business Bureau has teamed with several government agencies for National Consumer Protection Week designed to bring awareness to smart behaviors to protect your identity and personal information.

BBB's Kirstin Davis said scams are, "going faster all the time and getting more sophisticated all the time so it's just a good reminder that we're all working together to help combat things and providing people with information to protect themselves."

Davis said they've seen the rise of home maintenance and employment schemes in recent months.

To avoid being scammed, Davis said, "Doing that software update is important for your devices and your computers. Keep your anti-virus software up to date and use caution when you are browsing whether it's on social media or just online."

BBB's Kirstin Davis says it's also important to shred personal documents such as taxes.
