Representative Dan Newhouse says a recent WDFW report on the wolf population should be seen as a positive.

"I think this just reaffirms what we've been saying for a long time, that the recovery of the gray wolf is truly a success story if you look at the numbers of wolves in the West."

The report noted that there are a minimum of 115 wolves, 20 packs and 10 successful breeding pairs of wolves in Washington. Newhouse says that now the conversation can turn to next steps.

"This should add a lot to the conversation in support of us delisting the gray wolf. I'm glad to see those numbers and I'm glad to see them from the state department. I hope that we can use that information to really bring about some common sense into the delisting conversation."
