Representative Dan Newhouse recently voted in favor of the American COMPETE Act, a bipartisan package of nine separate pieces of legislation aimed at strengthening the American tech industry.

The 4th District Republican said the legislation is even more critical in the current climate, as we are learning so many things about our dependence with China during the pandemic.

"Strengthening or fostering an independence from China by bolstering our own tech industry I think not only makes sense economically, but also from a national security standpoint."

The bipartisan American COMPETE Act would attempt to incentives free market ingenuity by reducing barriers for the deployment of tech like artificial intelligence, quantum computing and block chain.

Introduced in part by follow Washington State Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers on August 31st, the American COMPETE Act passed the House by a voice vote last week.

Newhouse added that he and McMorris Rodgers have worked together for almost 20 years in different aspects.
