Last week, a 'skinny', $500 billion version of a COVID relief package was proposed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell but failed to pass a procedural vote.

4th District Representative Dan Newhouse said he wishes he could report Congress members were coming together to further negotiate a bill.

"... but it seems like any kind of negotiation has yielded no results because there's been a lack of wanting to make any significant changes," stated Newhouse.

House Democrats, who previously passed the $3 trillion HEROES Act in May before McConnell refused to bring it to the Senate floor, signaled that the Republican bill was not enough. Republicans believe the HEROES Act provided too much money to unrelated items to be seriously considered.

Newhouse said, "For me, the frustrating part is that the two sides are just not even sitting down at the table and even trying to work things out."

With less than two months until a national election, Newhouse added that there is a real possibility another relief package may not get passed until after the November 3rd election.
