North Central Educational Service District is offering a free opportunity for professionals to learn about cybersecurity in all career sectors, including education. A cybersecurity summit will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on February 18 at the Numerica Performing Arts Center.

"It's really driven from the need around cybersecurity. The whole pipeline from K-12 education into industry is kind of lacking as the cybersecurity field is picking up steam and becoming more important," said Pete Phillips, NCESD Technology Services executive director. "So, we're trying to create that pathway and build a cohort of cybersecurity folks all the way from the education industry to business to tech industry."

The event will feature three experts, including a Wenatchee Valley College information security officer, to provide different cybersecurity related information before opening the floor for discussion.

"Cybersecurity is so huge and where we're starting February 18th is kind of exposure and terminology and painting the picture of where we're at in North Central Washington," said Phillips.

Sol Cates, Steve Garcia and Corrinne Sande are the featured speakers at the event. Cates is a CTO cyber and cloud expert, Garcia is WVC information security officer and Sande is the Computer Science and Information Systems director at Whatcom Community College.
