An officer-involved shooting Friday night on Denton Road resulted in the death of the suspect as well as a seriously wounded K9.

Moses Lake Street Crimes detectives were searching for a suspect wanted for a string of robberies just before 10:45 pm Friday on Airway Drive. According to the department, unidentified suspect was located in his vehicle and he fled the scene after attempts by officers to get him to stop.

The chase continued through the area for several miles until the suspect's vehicle drove over a spike strip and came to a rest on Denton Road.

After exiting the vehicle the suspect then fled on foot. A K9 unit then made contact with the suspect and during the pursuit, the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the K9. An officer then shot the suspect.

The suspect passed away at the scene.

Moses Lake Police Chief Kevin Fuhr said, "As per protocol, any time you have an officer-involved shooting the officer is on paid administrative leave, and will be until he is cleared both through the prosecutors officer as then also just to make sure he's ready to come back to work."

The K9 was transported to Washington State University's Veterinary Unit. The dog is in stable condition after emergency surgery.
