With 400 applicants and only 41 organizations selected, Our Valley Our Future's Latino Communications Network received a state Department of Health grant. The organization was provided $10,000 in funds for COVID-19 educational outreach.

"Nobody knows when this (COVID) is going to end, we're already preparing to continue our education efforts through at least the rest of this year," said Steve Maher, coordinator.

The Latino Communications Network has dished out radio ads, flyers, e-news memos and even visiting locations frequented by the Latino community such as Wenatchee's La Mexicana Super Market.

"We've been starting to informally survey folks as they walk up to to these businesses to see if they're wearing a mask or not," said Maher. "The rate of compliance was about 81% there (La Mexicana Super Market and Cashmere's Carniceria El Amigo Market)."

Looking ahead, Maher added the organization wants to start conducting videos and hosting webinars.
