The Washington State Department of Commerce, along with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, dispersed almost $4.1 million in grants to early learning providers, including Pateros Treehouse Early Education Organization. Treehouse received $540,000 to add capacity to the organization by purchasing the Church of Christ building.

"Following the Carlton Complex Fire, we worked in the Church of Christ. The congregation had grown really small and they were interested in having it being used for community in the future," said Carlene Anders, executive director of Pateros Treehouse Early Education Organization.

The board of directors for the organization have been working on the purchase and remodel of the church to double as childcare and preschool.

"Right now, we don't have any licensed child care in the city limits of Pateros," said Anders

Anders added her and her husband operate a childcare service, but have plans to close shop now that the Pateros Treehouse Organization is picking up speed.
