The Port of Chelan County wants to pursue a grant that could lead to direct flights from Pangborn Airport to San Francisco.

The World reports the port will approach the local business community to raise about $400-thousand to qualify for a federal grant. The grant is funded by fees paid by foreign airlines flying over the U.S. according to Craig Larsen, the port's business development director.

Larsen says the combined $1.1 million in funding would guarantee revenue for an airline’s first two years operations between Pangborn and San Francisco beginning as early as summer 2018.

Larsen says the use of Pangborn is up with nearly 90% of seats in December booked with paying customers.
