Waste Management Company has landed in the Port of Mattawa as the port's newest tenant. The company will use the space to stage equipment, not to store solid waste or provide drive up services.

"This land tenant will not only help us with a little more income, but in turn it will provide better services for our region," said Lars Leland, executive director.

Job opportunities will stem from the new tenant with the potential of more future job growth. The port will serve as Waste Management's south station to avoid the drive from Ellensburg to Mattawa, which exhausts time and money.

"With this station they can have their equipment, their trucks, their receptacles there," said Leland. "It'll save them a lot of expenses and in turn pass savings onto our population."
