Quincy Police Officer arrested a 28-year-old Quincy man after he led police on a high-speed chase and then was involved in a standoff at a home Tuesday morning.

Captain Ryan Green says officers attempted to stop Joel A Villela in a domestic violence case from earlier in the week.

"The officers followed him to an alleyway behind a residence on the 500 block of L St. SW. The officers observed him running through the back yard and into the house. They gave chase and he barricaded himself and said he wasn't going to give up. The officers also had information that he had possibly been armed with a handgun."

The Tactical Regional Team, and a negotiator were called in.

Green says during the standoff officers were able to get two uninvolved family members out of the house.

"After several hours of negotiating and trying to get him to come out, the TRT moved to deploy CS gas into the residence and shortly after that Mr. Villela surrendered coming out the front door with his hands raised in the air."

Villela faces multiple charges, some from the domestic violence case, and several from Tuesday's incident.

Captain Green says use of SWAT teams are very rare in Quincy.
