State representative Alex Ybarra announced his bid for reelection as District 13 representative Monday.

Ybarra, who worked for Grant PUD for sixteen years and was a member of the Quincy School Board for eight, said his first two years in Olympia gave him the opportunity to learn a lot.

"There were so many different issues that don't affect a lot of folks around Central Washington but there is issues that I had no idea where out there. So it was very much a learning experience." explained Ybarra, "Plus I learned a lot about how the legislature works, and how relationships are very important when you're trying to pass bills and trying to bring a lot to my constituents in District 13."

Ybarra was a member of four committees in Olympia this year: Appropriations, Civil Rights and Judicial, Consumer Protection and Education.

The 13th District representative was first appointed to the legislature in January of 2019 as a replacement for Representative Matt Manweller of Ellensburg, who was forced to step down after 16 students accused the former professor of improper conduct. Ybarra would go on to win a special election against challenger Steve Verhey in November of that year.
