The Douglas County Sheriff's office received a call Sunday from an individual picking who was asparagus in the Bridgeport area when they discovered what appeared to be human remains.

The remains were found in trees and brush on a hillside in the 2700 block of Tacoma Ave.

Sheriff Kevin Morris said that although the remains did not contain an ID, based upon the remains' location, personal effects and clothing, the department is pretty confident they belong to Roy L. Groeneveld, who was 43 when he disappeared from the area ten years ago.

"We were told he was suffering from some mental and physical illness. He literally just walked away from a family gathering." Morris explained, "It was suspected by the parents, because he liked water, that he went down to the river, but that has turned out to probably not be the case."

The identity of the remains cannot be confirmed until DNA testing results come back.
