4th District Rep. Dan Newhouse has proposed a bill in Congress that would rename the third power plant at Grand Coulee Dam the Nathaniel 'Nat' Washington Power Plant.

He says Nat Sr. and his son Nat Jr. were a huge part of the development of the dam and the Columbia Basin Project which has made a huge impact in Central Washington.

"Renaming the third power plant at Grand Coulee Dam after both Nathaniel Washington Sr. and his son Nathaniel Washington Jr. will help honor their legacy as pioneers of Northwest hydropower."

The third power plant was completed in 1980 making Grand Coulee Dam the largest hydropower generating facility in the world.

The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives last year, but was finally heard in front of a subcommittee Thursday.

It is co-sponsored by the entire Washington delegation in the House.
