Recovery from the Pearl Hill Fire continues as Douglas County, the city of Bridgeport and the state Department of Ecology are working with impacted homeowners.

County Commissioner Marc Straub says the first step is to make sure all the asbestos and hazardous material assessments are completed.

"For folks, if they want to go to DouglasCountyWA.net, right on the front page there there will be a Pearl Hill resources link to a resource paper and it's very exhaustive in terms of covering what resources are available at this point in time. As that changes, we'll be certain to update [the information]."

Straub says the link tells people the most important parts of cleaning up so that they are compliant with state and federal guidelines.

"In addition to that, Douglas County is working in conjunction with Waste Management to provide our citizens the ability to take some of the cleanup to the landfill, up to 500 tons I believe it is, free of charge. Thanks to Waste Management for making that happen."

He also noted that there is also information on how to handle scrap metal and appliances.

If you are in need of housing there are instructions on who to contact as well.

You can keep up to date with the County's recovery on the Douglas County Facebook page.
