A handful of local groups - GWATA, Apple STEM Network, Sabey Data Center, Foothills Middle School Robotics, and Sterling Intermediate School Robotics - are collaborating for the first RoboFLEX challenge. The free challenge, March 14 from 8:30-2 p.m. at Pybus Event Center, is open to Wenatchee Valley 5th-8th graders and opens the door to engage with robotics.

"It's a STEM awareness community event," said Brigitte Wiegand, Foothill robotics coach. "A lot of kids in our area might not know our programs exist. So to be able to invite kids in the community to come do this really cool challenge with us, just kind of introduces them to different facets of STEM."

The students will break off into teams to complete challenges with VEX and Lego robotics gear.

"The big thing is coming with that open mind and just knowing that you're getting an opportunity to make new relationships with people you might haven't met before," said Travis Kane, Sterling Intermediate School teacher. "And really given the chance to think outside the box."

The challenge is intended to give kiddos a chance to get hands on and test out their robotics skills in a group setting. Pizza will be provided as well. Space is limited, so it's encouraged to register as soon as possible.
