12th District Senator Brad Hawkins is asking for residents in the area to fill out a three-question survey regarding a sex education bill that was recently passed by the State Senate. He says he has concerns about the legislation, but wants to hear from his constituents.

"Who should determine comprehensive sex education? Should it be the state of Washington? Should it be our local school districts? What do you think about comprehensive sex education? What are your concerns? Every question has an opportunity for people to provide an expansive comment. I also ask about whether they agreed with my vote."

Hawkins says within just a few hours of releasing the survey, they had more than 1,000 responses. You can find the survey at SenatorBradHawkins.org.

He also voted in favor of a bill that would abolish the death penalty, something largely opposed by Senate Republicans.

"In addition to the State Supreme Court finding it unconstitutional, I do believe it is inhumane and kind of a flawed practice. It's inconsistently applied throughout the state. Only the larger, more prosperous financially able counties, like King and Pierce County, are able to go forward."

He said rural counties are unlikely to be able to pursue capital punishment.
