The Senate Ways and Means Committee approved Senate Bill 5158, legislation sponsored by 12th District Senator Brad Hawkins. The bill aims for the implementation of recommendations provided by the Electric Utilities Wildland Fire Prevention Task Force for wildfire prevention.

"The 12th District has four separate utility districts and unfortunately, a history of wildfires," said Senator Hawkins. "This bill is very important to North Central Washington and I'm hopeful I can keep the momentum going."

The Senate Ways and Means Committee is the committee which will be developing the Senate budget proposal.

The bill now advances to the Senate Rules Committee. This committee is the final step before the bill moves to the Senate floor.
