Rural economies could get a boost under a bill that's passed the Washington State Senate.

The Economic Revitalization Act, sponsored by 7th District Senator Shelly Short, would provide rural areas more flexibility under the Growth Management Act to help with job creation and economic development.

In a statement, Short said, "Oftentimes, one-size-fits-all state laws and regulations create unnecessary roadblocks to job creation in our communities."

The bill now goes to the House for review.
