The Senate passed 12th District Senator Brad Hawkins' Senate Bill 5000, legislation to promote hydrogen powered vehicles with the establishment of a sales tax reduction pilot project. The unanimous vote advances the bill to the House of Representatives.

"I'm very thankful that the bill has the support of broad bipartisan co-sponsors," said Senator Hawkins. "There's 30 co-sponsors on this bill, I'm very thankful for the support it's received."

The bill would establish an eight year statewide pilot project for the reduction of sales tax for purchases of fuel-cell electric vehicles.

"I think there's really an opportunity for our state to lead the West Coast and potentially the entire United States on renewable hydrogen," said Senator Hawkins. "I'm really excited where things will go over the next few years."
