The snow hit North Central Washington sooner than expected this morning. Greg Koch with the National Weather Service says he expects the snow to intensify throughout the day.

"By late tonight we're looking for accumulations of 6-10 inches for places like Wenatchee and the Waterville Plateau and maybe a little bit more up around Leavenworth and the plains. We could see 10, maybe even 12 inches of snow in those areas."

Koch said the storm is a result of the collision of a cold air mass and a warm air mass as the weather transitions to warmer conditions.

But the big question, is Wednesday's storm our last bout of wintery weather? It could be according to Koch.

"As we move into tomorrow and into Friday we're looking at a generally warmer mass in the region. In the 6-10 outlooks and the 8-14 day outlooks for the region are calling for at or above average temperatures which is something we have seen very little of this winter."

Wednesday's storm is expected to turn into some ice and sleet from the Columbia Basin to Moses Lake by the evening hours and then eventually turn into rain Thursday.
