Fire crews from Chelan District 1 and Douglas District 2 responded to a structure fire on Methow St. Monday night around 9:20 p.m. Public Information Officer Kay McKellar says when they arrived, they found a small, shed-type building on fire though there were no occupants.

"They did locate a dog kennel and they took it out of the building. They found a shiatzu dog in the kennel with thermal injuries and the dog did pass away from his injuries."

No one else was injured, either firefighters or occupants and the fire was out in about 30 minutes.

"Chief [Brian] Brett, who was the incident commander on this incident, said the cause of the fire is likely accidental. The ignition source, at this time, is being examined in the area of the origin just to confirm everything."

The interior of the shed is considered salvageable and will be repaired. The main dwelling was not damaged.
