For folks in unemployment limbo, there is a local resource, SkillSource, that is a nonprofit designed to assist youth and adults with dated skills receive training for the workplace. People are invited to come to acquire new skills to jump into a different career path or just to spruce up on basic skills, like math and computer literacy.

"That is one of the fun things about working there is we do get to see these people and give them some hope, some skills and some ideas to get back to something totally different than they've done before," said Jim Adamson, training consultant.

SkillSource offers advance courses with the possibility of the organization funding the tuition with scholarships to attend Wenatchee Valley College classes or online classes. There is also on the job training available with SkillSource.

"If a business wants to hire a person, they can get trained while they're working and get paid for it," said Adamson. "And then we can reimburse some of the wages back to that employer so it offsets some of the training costs used to train someone new."

Most of SkillSource services are free for low income folks, low basic skills or displaced employees, including workshops.

WorkSource, another entity for those looking for assistance to land in a new job position, works closely with SkillSource.
