Due to people laying low as a result of the 'Stay Home' order, traffic has lessened and an open road, warm weather and sunny skies is the perfect trifecta for motorcycle riders.

Washington State Patrol, however, reported that the lower traffic volumes have led to higher speeds and as a result a spike in rider deaths.

"We're you're doing extreme speeds it's much more difficult to react to something in the roadway," said Sergeant Darren Wright. "Some riders carry that excessive speed into a curve and are unable to go through the curve and end up crashing as a result of that."

This is evident with 12 out of the 17 motorcycle fatalities in 2020 occuring in April.
