Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is working alongside state Representative Debra Lekanoff on House Bill 1725 to create an alert similar to 'silver alerts', but for missing Indigenous people.

The alerts would be issued in the same way silver alerts are when vulnerable adults are reported missing. Missing Indigenous people would be shared on message signs, press releases, highway advisory radio messages. States that report data on “silver alerts” report a high success rate.

This will be the first alert system specifically for missing and murdered Indigenous women and people in the country.
