The Washington State Department of Health announced Monday that Secretary of Health John Wiesman will be resigning.

According to a press release, Wiesman submitted his resignation to Governor Inslee on March 1st. The Secretary of Health's resignation is effective at the end of the Govern's second term on January 10th, 2021.

Prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wiesman accepted a faculty appointment at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, to begin July of next year.

Said Wiesman, "There is much work that remains to be done in the upcoming eight months before I live this position. Most pressing, and job number one, is continuing to mount a strong, coordinated response to the COVID-19 disease outbreak."
