State Senator Judy Warnick says produce from western Washington must undergo stringent safety measures to prevent maggot infestations.

"Apple maggots are one of the biggest issues that we have had to face, especially for our export market. I'm very disappointed."

The Moses Lake Republican says there are several obvious signs on the road that specify those requirements about transporting fruit.

"I have spent a good part of my legislative career trying to protect our agriculture products."

She’s urging the Department of Agriculture to investigate.
