The State Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would allow tow-truck operators dispatched by law enforcement or another state or local agency, to bring a civil action to recover unpaid vehicle recovery, impound and storage charges from a person who was operating a motor vehicle on a public highway in an illegal or negligent manner.

12th District Senator Brad Hawkins says he was approached by the owner of Randy's Towing with idea because they sometimes get stuck with the bill if drivers or insurance companies don’t pay them.

The bill passed with just a single no vote and now goes to the House for further consideration.
