Students and other protesters filled the steps of Wenatchee City Hall Friday for the 'Global Youth Climate Strike', joining hundreds of thousands across the planet.

Roughly 200 people came out to raise awareness over the global climate crisis. While most students were from Wenatchee High School, groups of students from Eastmont, Cascade, Cashmere and Waterville school districts were also represented.

The event was organized by WHS student Izzy Smith with the help of 350 Wenatchee. Sue Kane, organizer and activist with 350 Wenatchee said the students came to them to coordinate their efforts.

"We are supporting the students, so that's our main objective." explained Kane, "I would say the students' main objective is to call attention to (climate change). Also they're going get some education."

Officials from the City of Wenatchee also spoke at the event, most notably mayor pro-tem Mike Poirier, who gave an update on the city's clean air resolution that was passed in 2010.

The group then marched to the Wenatchee Community Center for a screening of the film "Ice on Fire".
