Two men connected to multiple shootings in the Mattawa area last year are pleading guilty to drive-by shooting and assault charges.

Our news partner iFIBER ONE reports Melchor Celaya and Rodrigo Quiroz took a plea deal, with Celaya sentenced to 27 months in prison and Quiroz 15 months. They were initially charged with first-degree assault, but the charge was lessened due to the plea agreement.

The two men, along with a third unidentified accomplice, stole a car in Mattawa on May 20th of 2021 and chased their victim down a back road, firing at least five shots into his car. The victim then made it back home, and the two fired at least twelve more shots into the house.

Eventually both Quiroz and Celaya turned themselves in.

Melchor Celaya is also the nephew of Mattawa Mayor Maria Celaya.
