Andrea O’Donnell's named American Legion’s Educator of the Year for the state of Washington. Andrea's presented the award at an October 28th school assembly. Takes place at Wenatchee's Columbia Elementary School, where she's an instructional coach. “I am deeply honored to receive this award as the American Legion is known for their support and advocacy in education,” Andrea said. “I have a deep appreciation for the American Legion—Veterans and Military should always be remembered for the many sacrifices they have given to provide for our freedom.” Andrea received a Certificate from the American Legion Department of Washington and $500. She also got $250 from American Legion Post 10 of Wenatchee, for her regional award in May 2016. Presenters at the assembly will be American Legion Department of Washington representatives Commander Wayne Elfton, Area #3 Commander Denny Pittman and Education Committee Chair Bud Sperry, along with Wenatchee American Legion Post #10, Vice Commander Rae Hail. The award reflects the nominee’s professional career, community service, strong family values, achievements, commendations and recognitions. Andrea's a Nationally Certified Teacher who taught elementary school for 16 years before becoming an Instructional Coach at Columbia Elementary in 2012. She has a Bachelor of Arts in K-8 Education with Endorsements in English as a Second Language, Bilingual Education and Reading. Her Masters is in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as Principal Certification.
